| Engraver Overview The Engraver program was developed by Derval to support the CompuCutter system. The HPGL commands created are limited to those required by CompuCutter's produduct. The Output is to a PLT file. Engraver is in three main parts, Vectored Font Designer and Editor, Plotter Designer and Editor and a PLT Text Editor to edit the resultant PLT file by hand if required. Some of the commads have benn chaged from the original HPGL commands. For instance the commands PU and PD, for Pen Up and Pen Down are changed to CU and CD for Cutter UP etc. A number is added to give a dimension to the Z axis. Vector Font Designer and Editor This is a fully featured Vector font Designer and Editor. Fonts may be Modified or Designed from scratch. In addition to normal text fonts, symbols fonts may be created containing a variety of small pictures or icons. In addition to the Designer module there are Utilities, allowing Italic, Flip and Rotate amoung others. The Mapping module allows comprehensive mapping. Any character may be mapped to any position. Composite fonts may be created containing a mixture of characters from several fonts. Plotter Designer and Editor The Plotter Designer module has four separate functions, Draw Lines, Edit Lines, New Text and Edit Text. All resulting drawing or text may be saved to a PLT plotter file. Prompts for the four functions are shown on the screen. Draw Lines - Allows the user to draw lines to create borders and other shapes. Left mouse button draws a Line and Right causes a Pen/Cutter UP operation to start a new line. Edit Lines - Is to allow modification of the Line Drawing. A cursor may be moved between the drawn positions and there are Move, Delete and Insert functions. A Marker may be set to identify a position for late Editing with the Text Editor. New Text - Allows text or graphics objects, from a seleted font, to be inserted into the plotter file. Text is selected together with the size required. The selected text may be inserted at the Cursor or centred on the Cursor. As an added facility the text may be reversed (left to right) to assist with make die cast molds. Edit Text - The text objects may be selected and either Moved or Deleted. PLT Text Editor The Notepad style editor is a simple texteditor that will allow the user to manually edit the PLT file created be Engraver. The Edit Lines and Edit Text modules above can insert a marker, an @ character, into the PLT file, a Find facility will enable the search for this and other characters to be made easier. Supplied Fonts The Engraver is supplied with 18 ready built vector fonts. These range from the usual serif and sanserif fonts, including normal and light versions, to foreign and Old Gothic fonts. In addition a Symbols font is included containing nearly 200 symbols with Mapping, Astrology, Music characters and a set of Maths symbols and various circles and similar shapes. All these fonts may modified with the Font Design modules. A further 20 high resolution font are supplied to allow larger sizes and more variety. These fonts cannot be read by the Font Designer.
